Ella on the cover of Wonderland Magazine

Jun 27, 2019       Category: Photoshoots ,Press ,Sweetbitter       Comments: 0

Actress Ella Purnell takes to the front of the Summer 19 issue in Chanel.

The precocious actor wears Chanel in this latest cover shoot, taken from our Summer Issue.

Echoing an icon, CHANEL 19 was dropped this year, mirroring the creation of the 2.55 bag in February 1955.

Making its debut on the AW19 runway, Karl Lagerfeld and Virginie Viard’s creation, the CHANEL 19 bag, was named in honour of the House’s most beloved bag, the eternal 2.55. The rectangular flap bag available in three sizes is synonymous with easy chic, exemplified here by certified Chanel girl, Ella Purnell, and fastens with the signature double C (what else?)

Taking on the colours of AW19 collection, the CHANEL 19 comes in black, beige and white leather, as well as statement shades of turquoise, green, deep red and dark pink. Tweed on the other hand — it wouldn’t be Chanel without a little tweed — takes eight different forms.

With adjustable chain link handles for when you’re feeling #exec, and a belt-bag option for when you’re feeling free and only want to carry your card and keys, it’s a truly universal model. Or at least, that’s what we’re telling ourselves while saving up for two. Excessive? Worth it.

New project : “Belgravia”

Apr 13, 2019       Category: Belgravia ,News ,Press       Comments: 0

Filming commences on Carnival’s BELGRAVIA by Julian Fellowes for ITV and EPIX

Tamsin Greig, Philip Glenister, Harriet Walter and Alice Eve to star

Filming has commenced on Belgravia, a Julian Fellowes-penned six-part limited series for ITV and EPIX from Carnival Films, the makers of Downton Abbey.

Belgravia is a story of secrets and scandals amongst the upper echelon of London society in the 19th Century. When the Trenchards accept an invitation to the now legendary ball hosted by the Duchess of Richmond on the fateful eve of the Battle of Waterloo, it sets in motion a series of events that will have consequences for decades to come as secrets unravel behind the porticoed doors of London’s grandest neighbourhood.

Filming will take place at a range of stunning Victorian locations in London and the home counties, Edinburgh, Bath and Northumberland.

The limited series reunites the award-winning creative team behind Downton Abbey; with Julian Fellowes adapting his bestselling novel for the screen and Carnival’s Gareth Neame executive producing alongside Nigel Marchant, Liz Trubridge and Fellowes. John Alexander (Sense & Sensibility, Trust Me) will direct all episodes with Colin Wratten (Killing Eve) producing.

The team is joined by a stellar ensemble cast including Tamsin Greig (Episodes), Philip Glenister (Mad Dogs), Harriet Walter (The Crown) and Alice Eve (She’s Out Of My League), Tara Fitzgerald (Game of Thrones), Ella Purnell (Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children), Richard Goulding (The Windsors), James Fleet (Four Weddings and a Funeral), Adam James (Band of Brothers), Paul Ritter (Friday Night Dinner) and Saskia Reeves (Luther).

Belgravia is a Carnival Films co-production with EPIX for ITV and is distributed by NBCUniversal International Distribution. The series has been commissioned for ITV by Head of Drama, Polly Hill. The eponymous novel on which it is based is published by Orion Publishing.

‘I never thought I’d have the courage to talk about self-harm’

Ella Purnell has an enviable list of film credits, but her success masked a mental health battle. She talks to Cara Mcgoogan.

Ella Purnell could feel it in her bones that something really bad was about to happen. She was hyperventilating and completely at a loss as to what was wrong. Her mum suggested that it was probably nothing to worry about, and suggested that she might have drunk too much coffee.

In fact, she was having her first panic attack aged just 13. “I couldn’t identify what the feeling was,” Purnell recalls. “I felt worried and scared but I didn’t know why.”

Purnell – who had recently filmed Never Let Me Go, playing a younger version of Keira Knightley’s character – feels the British education system let her down, by not providing the tools she desperately needed to help her understand and cope.
“I felt low and down, but thought you could only have ‘depression’ if something really bad had happened in your life,” she says. “It hadn’t, so I thought ‘I can’t have that’. It’s a big scary word and didn’t feel like something I was allowed to have, because we never talked about it.”
