IntoTheGloss – Ella Purnell, Actress

Jul 18, 2019       Category: Photoshoots ,Press ,Sweetbitter       Comments: 0

“Every child actor has to go through the transition to adult actor. I was 11 when I got Never Let Me Go—I grew up pretty fast. As tempting as it is to just keep working, if you want to make the transition in a healthy, constructive way, it is important to step out. I had gotten to the point where I was not getting the kinds of scripts I wanted—it was the girlfriend of the main guy, or the one who was just there to be objectified—so I took some time off to recalibrate.

It was only eight months, but it was the longest I’d gone without working since I was 10. Then I got Sweetbitter, and I fell in love with acting again. Not to be cheesy, but it completely changed my life—I moved from East London, where I had lived my whole life, to New York. Everything just flipped. Obviously I had a lot of acting experience, but I had grown up doing films—the whole industry of TV is new to me. The show could get picked up, it could not, you don’t get the script until the day before it shoots… It’s a completely different job.

In the show, Tess is thrown into this restaurant industry and she has no idea what’s happening, and I was like that with TV, just trying to stay afloat.I ended up learning with her. A cliche, but life does imitate art. It’s funny how that happens, right?

‘Sweetbitter’ Star Ella Purnell Takes On The Bustle Booth

Jul 18, 2019       Category: Photoshoots ,Press ,Sweetbitter       Comments: 0

When celebrities hang out with Bustle writers, we want to give them the chance to leave their mark. Literally. So we hand them a pen, a piece of paper, a few questions, and ask them to get creative. The rest is up to them. This time, Sweetbitter star Ella Purnell is leaving her mark in the Bustle Booth.

“I no longer just eat because I’m hungry,” says Ella Purnell. “I eat as an experience.” Playing the server Tess on Sweetbitter has “100 percent flipped” her relationship with food and dining out. Like her character, she’s taking it in and applying it to her life outside of work. “I know how to pair wines, kind of! You drink to experience the flavors, the aromas, the complexities, the layers that go behind a fine. I appreciate that culture now.”

“I used to watch people swirling their wine and be like, idiots, they don’t know what they’re talking about,” Purnell laughs. “Now I’m that guy that’s like ‘hmmm, olives on the nose!'” It’s an art form, she says, after all. “It sounds really pretentious, but it’s kind of true.”

Purnell has played Tess for two seasons now — but for the majority of Season 1, we didn’t know her name. As in Stephanie Danler’s book that the show is based on, Tess is introduced as a blank slate and referred to only by nicknames like “little one” and “baby monster” as she settles into New York City and starts to figure out who she is.

She’s not a blank slate anymore. “Season 2 is my preferred season actually, don’t tell anyone, because it’s all about power,” Purnell laughs. “[Tess] goes from being curious and wanting to experience everything and learn things and find out who she is to becoming voracious and achieving her power.” “Life happened to Tess” in Season 1, Purnell says. “But in Season 2, Tess happens to life.”

For juicer hints about Sweetbitter Season 2 and Purnell’s Disney channel favorites (not everything’s the high brow art of fine dining), check out HER answers to our Bustle Booth below.

Ella on the cover of Wonderland Magazine

Jun 27, 2019       Category: Photoshoots ,Press ,Sweetbitter       Comments: 0

Actress Ella Purnell takes to the front of the Summer 19 issue in Chanel.

The precocious actor wears Chanel in this latest cover shoot, taken from our Summer Issue.

Echoing an icon, CHANEL 19 was dropped this year, mirroring the creation of the 2.55 bag in February 1955.

Making its debut on the AW19 runway, Karl Lagerfeld and Virginie Viard’s creation, the CHANEL 19 bag, was named in honour of the House’s most beloved bag, the eternal 2.55. The rectangular flap bag available in three sizes is synonymous with easy chic, exemplified here by certified Chanel girl, Ella Purnell, and fastens with the signature double C (what else?)

Taking on the colours of AW19 collection, the CHANEL 19 comes in black, beige and white leather, as well as statement shades of turquoise, green, deep red and dark pink. Tweed on the other hand — it wouldn’t be Chanel without a little tweed — takes eight different forms.

With adjustable chain link handles for when you’re feeling #exec, and a belt-bag option for when you’re feeling free and only want to carry your card and keys, it’s a truly universal model. Or at least, that’s what we’re telling ourselves while saving up for two. Excessive? Worth it.

Ella Purnell Joins Zack Snyder’s ‘Army of the Dead’

Ella Purnell Joins Zack Snyder’s ‘Army of the Dead’ as Dave Bautista’s Daughter

British actress’ credits include “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children” and “Kick-Ass 2”

British actress Ella Purnell has joined the cast of Zack Snyder’s “Army of the Dead” as Dave Bautista’s daughter Kate, an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap exclusively. Additionally, Ana De La Reguera (“Everything, Everything,” “Goliath”), Theo Rossi (“Luke Cage,” “Sons of Anarchy”) and Huma Qureshi (“Kaala,” “Viceroy’s House,” “Gangs of Wasseypur,” “Badlapur”) round out the rest of the cast.

Snyder and Shay Hatten wrote the script for the project, which follows a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas and a man assembling a group of mercenaries to pull off the greatest heist. “Army of the Dead” marks Snyder’s return to the zombie genre, having previously made his directorial debut with “Dawn of the Dead” for Universal Pictures.

Snyder and his wife Deborah Snyder are producing for The Stone Quarry with Wesley Coller. Ori Marmur and Andrew Norman are overseeing for Netflix.

Principal photography for “Army of the Dead” is set to begin in July, with James Gunn shooting “The Suicide Squad” in September before he starts production on “Guardians 3” — so Bautista has plenty of time to wrap up Snyder’s heist film before returning to Drax.

Purnell’s credits include “Kick-Ass 2,” “The Journey Is the Destination,” “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children” and “Churchill.” She also starred in the TV mini-series “Ordeal by Innocence” and the series “Sweetbitter.”

Purnell is represented by the Curtis Brown Group, WME and Shelter PR. De la Reguera and Rossi are repped by Paradigm, Qureshi is repped by Troika.
